भरणं पुत्रदाराणां वेदानां धारणं तथा । वसतामाश्रमं श्रेष्ठ वदन्ति परमर्षय:

Transliteration

bharaṇaṃ putradārāṇāṃ vedānāṃ dhāraṇaṃ tathā | vasatām āśramaṃ śreṣṭha vadanti paramarṣayaḥ ||

Translation

بھیشم نے کہا—پرَم رِشیوں کے نزدیک دو فرائض سب سے برتر ہیں: بیٹوں اور بیوی کی جائز طریقے سے کفالت، اور ویدوں کی دھارَنا—یعنی ان کا مطالعہ، حفاظت اور روایت کو قائم رکھنا۔ آشرم کے نظم میں رہنے والوں کے لیے یہی بہترین بنیاد ہے۔
