Rāma–Jāmadagnya-janma-kāraṇa and Kṣatra-kṣaya

Paraśurāma’s origins and the depletion/restoration of kṣatriya lineages

vatsaiḥ saṃvardhito goche sa māṃ rakṣatu pārthivaḥ |

Educational Q&A

The verse underscores that dharmic capability—especially the duty to protect—depends on inner strength and rightful conduct, not merely on elite birth or polished upbringing. A ruler’s legitimacy is shown through guardianship and power aligned with duty.

Vāsudeva refers to a particular king, identifying him by the distinctive story that he was raised in a cowshed among calves and thus called ‘Vatsa,’ and expresses the wish/command that this ruler should protect him.
