Sāṃkhya–Yoga Distinction and Instruction on Yogic Strength

vijñātarūpaḥ sa tadā tapaḥsiddho ’tha dhanvinā | jñātvā śūlaṃ ca deveśaḥ pāṇinā samamānamayat ||

Educational Q&A

Spiritual attainment gained through tapas is acknowledged even by the highest divine authority; true power expresses itself through discernment and restraint—responding proportionately and purposefully rather than through uncontrolled violence.

Bhīṣma narrates that Śiva recognizes a tapas-siddha figure and, seeing him positioned upon the trident, lowers/bends the trident with his hand—an act signaling recognition, control over the weapon, and a measured divine response.
