Daṇḍotpatti-kathana (Origin and Function of Daṇḍa) — वसुहोम–मान्धातृ संवाद

असूया चानसूया च धर्माधर्मा तथैव च । अपत्रपानपत्रपे द्वीक्ष सम्पद्धविपत्पदम्‌

bhīṣma uvāca | asūyā cān asūyā ca dharmādharmā tathaiva ca | apatrāpānapatrape dīkṣā sampad-vipat-padam ||

بھیشم نے کہا—حسد اور بےحسدی، دھرم اور اَدھرم، بےشرمی اور حیا، خوشحالی اور مصیبت—یہ اور ان جیسے دوسرے متضاد احوال دَण्ड (حکمرانی کے نظم و ضبط) کے ہی بہت سے نام اور صورتیں ہیں۔ اے کوروؤں کے سردار! یوں دَण्ड کی قوت اس دنیا میں لاتعداد طریقوں سے ظاہر ہو کر مخلوقات کے عروج و زوال کے ذریعے اخلاقی ترتیب کو آشکار کرتی ہے۔
