Jarāsandha–Bhīma Niyuddha-prastāvaḥ

Commencement of the Regulated Duel

गौतम: प्रणयात्‌ तस्माद्‌ यथासौ तत्र सझनि । भजते मागधं वंशं स नृपाणामनुग्रहात्‌,इसी कारण वह गौतम मुनि राजाओंके प्रेमसे वहाँ आश्रममें रहता तथा मगधदेशीय राजवंशकी सेवा करता है

gautamaḥ praṇayāt tasmād yathāsau tatra sañjani | bhajate māgadhaṃ vaṃśaṃ sa nṛpāṇām anugrahāt ||

اسی سبب محبت اور وابستگی کے باعث، جیسا کہ وہ وہاں پہلے سے مانوس ہے، رشی گوتم اسی آشرم میں رہتا ہے؛ اور بادشاہوں کی عنایت سے مگدھ کے شاہی خاندان کی خدمت کرتا ہے۔

Educational Q&A

Affectionate loyalty (praṇaya) and rightful patronage (anugraha) can harmonize ascetic residence with worldly service: a sage may remain settled in an āśrama and still serve a dynasty when the relationship is sustained by goodwill and accepted duty.

Vāyudeva explains that Gautama stays at that place/āśrama due to affectionate attachment and, supported by the favor of kings, renders service to the Magadhan royal lineage.
