Reporting Karṇa’s Fall to Yudhiṣṭhira
kasmād bhavān mahākhaḍgaṃ parigṛhṇāti satvaraḥ | tat tvāṃ pṛcchāmi kaunteya kim idaṃ te cikīrṣitam ||
The verse foregrounds ethical scrutiny of intention (cikīrṣitam) before action: in moments of haste and violence, one should be questioned and made to articulate purpose, since dharma depends not only on the deed but also on motive and context.
Sañjaya observes a Kuntī’s son urgently taking up a great sword and immediately questions him, seeking to know the reason and the intended course of action—signaling a tense, decisive moment within the battle narrative.
