Chapter 12: Arjuna’s suppression of the Saṃśaptakas and duel with Aśvatthāmā

तैः स्फुरद्धिर्मही भाति रक्ताड्गुलितलैस्तथा । गरुडप्रहितैरुग्रै: पजचास्यैरुरगैरिव

taiḥ sphuraddhir mahī bhāti raktāṅgulitalais tathā | garuḍaprahitair ugraiḥ pañcāsyair uragair iva || bhīmasenas tathā drauṇiṃ kurvāṇaṃ karma duṣkaram | vindānuvindau kaikeyau sātyakiḥ samavārayat ||

سنجے نے کہا—جن کی ہتھیلیاں اور انگلیاں خون سے لال تھیں، اُن پھڑکتی ہوئی کٹی بازوؤں سے زمین یوں چمک رہی تھی گویا گرُڑ کے گرائے ہوئے ہولناک پانچ منہ والے سانپ وہاں تڑپ رہے ہوں۔ اسی وقت بھیم سین نے دشکر کام کرنے والے درون پُتر اشوتھاما کو روک لیا، اور ساتیہ کی نے کیکَی دیش کے وِند اور اَنُووِند کو آڑے ہاتھوں تھام لیا۔

The verse highlights the ethical tension of righteous warfare: even when violence becomes overwhelming, warriors are portrayed as acting within roles of duty—checking dangerous opponents and preventing decisive, potentially catastrophic actions.
