Droṇa-parva Adhyāya 49: Yudhiṣṭhira’s Lament and Strategic Foreboding after Abhimanyu’s Fall

पृथिव्यामनुकीर्णैश्न व्यश्वसारथियोधिभि: । हृदैरिव प्रक्षुभितैर्हतनागै रथोत्तमै:

sañjaya uvāca |

pr̥thivyām anukīrṇaiś ca vy-aśva-sārathi-yodhibhiḥ |

hr̥dair iva prakṣubhitair hata-nāgai rathottamaiḥ ||

سنجے نے کہا—زمین پر بہترین رتھ اور مارے گئے ہاتھی بکھرے پڑے تھے؛ گھوڑوں، سارَتھیوں اور جنگجوؤں سے خالی وہ رتھ ایسے دکھائی دیتے تھے جیسے ہلچل مچائے ہوئے تالاب۔ انکوش، زرہ، ہتھیار اور جھنڈوں سمیت گرے ہوئے عظیم ہاتھی ڈھے گئے پہاڑوں کی مانند تھے، اور پیادہ لشکر کے جتھے بھی کٹ گئے تھے۔ اسی سبب وہ زمین نہایت ہولناک ہو گئی، بزدلوں کے دلوں میں خوف جگانے والی—جنگ کی اخلاقی قیمت کی گواہ۔
