Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how humiliation and anger can escalate into indiscriminate violence: Jarāsandha’s wounded pride turns into a resolve to kill, symbolized by the ‘all-destroying’ mace. Ethically, it warns that unchecked wrath (krodha) leads to destructive, adharma-leaning action.

Vāyu recounts an earlier incident: after Balarāma (Rauhiṇeya) defeats and humiliates Jarāsandha in battle, Jarāsandha, furious, throws his deadly mace with the intention of killing ‘us’ (the group aligned with the speaker’s side).
