Educational Q&A

The verse highlights disciplined competence in warfare: even amid violence, the warrior’s conduct is governed by kṣatriya-dharma—skill, steadiness, and duty-bound restraint—rather than uncontrolled anger.

An opponent releases well-aimed volleys of arrows in great numbers; Bhīṣma, called the Gaṅgā-born (Gāṅgeya/Gāḍeya), counters them effectively, ‘receiving’ them by meeting them with his own arrows and nullifying their impact.
