Earth (bhūmi) is characterized by five sensory qualities—sound, touch, form, taste, and smell—taught by sages who understand reality, presenting the material world as structured and knowable.
In Sañjaya’s descriptive discourse (within the Bhīṣma Parva’s cosmographical section), he reports a traditional classification of the elements, stating what qualities belong to the earth as part of a broader description of the world.
