The verse uses a cosmic portent—an east-facing meteor striking the rising sun—to suggest that when adharma intensifies, even the perceived stability of the world appears shaken. It frames the war as not merely political but morally consequential, with nature itself reflecting impending catastrophe.
Sañjaya reports an ominous sign to Dhṛtarāṣṭra: a massive meteor falls toward the east and, as if colliding with the rising sun, bursts apart with a loud sound—one among the portents foreshadowing the horrors of the Kurukṣetra battle.
