Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Affectionate Disposition toward the Pāṇḍavas
dhṛtarāṣṭra uvāca viditaṃ bhavatām etad yathā vṛttaḥ kurukṣayaḥ
The line underscores moral causality: the catastrophic end of a dynasty is not an isolated event but the outcome of known actions and choices. By stating it is already ‘known,’ Dhṛtarāṣṭra frames the war’s ruin as an acknowledged consequence, inviting reflection on responsibility, dharma, and the price of adharma.
Dhṛtarāṣṭra addresses his listeners and refers to the already-established account of how the Kuru clan met its destruction. It functions as a transition into recalling or discussing the events and causes of the great slaughter.
