Dāyavibhāga (Inheritance Apportionment) and Household Precedence — Dialogue of Yudhiṣṭhira and Bhīṣma

देवदत्तां पतिर्भा्या वेत्ति धर्मस्य शासनात्‌ । स दैवीं मानुषी वाचमनृतां पर्युदस्यति

devadattāṁ patir bhāryāṁ vetti dharmasya śāsanāt | sa daivīṁ mānuṣīṁ vācam anṛtāṁ paryudasyati ||

بھیشم نے کہا—دھرم کے احکام کی اطاعت میں شوہر اُس عورت کو، جو قانوناً اور حق کے ساتھ اسے حاصل ہوئی ہو، دیوتا کی عطا سمجھ کر اپنی بیوی مانتا ہے۔ اس لیے وہ اسے تقدیر کی بخشش جان کر قبول کرتا ہے اور محض انسانی باتوں—یعنی اس نکاح کو ناروا کہنے والی جھوٹی گفتگو—کو رد کر دیتا ہے۔
