आत्मजां रूपसम्पन्नां महतीं सदृशे वरे | न प्रयच्छति य: कन्यां त॑ विद्याद्‌ ब्रद्मघातिनम्‌,जो अपनी रूपवती कन्याकी बड़ी उम्र हो जानेपर भी उसका योग्य वरके साथ विवाह नहीं करता, उसे ब्रह्महत्यारा जाने

Bhīṣma uvāca | ātmajāṃ rūpasampannāṃ mahatīṃ sadṛśe vare | na prayacchati yaḥ kanyāṃ taṃ vidyād brahmaghātinam ||

بھیشم نے کہا—جو شخص اپنی خوبصورت بیٹی بالغ ہو جانے کے باوجود اسے کسی مناسب دولہے کے ساتھ نکاح میں نہیں دیتا، اسے برہمن کے قتل کا گناہ کرنے والا (برہما گھاتی) سمجھنا چاہیے۔
