Dāna-Śreṣṭhatā: On the Superiority of Giving
Maitreya–Vyāsa Exemplum
भृत्यातिथिजनश्चवापि गृहे पर्यशितो मया । मात्सर्यात् स्वादुकामेन नृशंसेन बुभुक्षता
bhṛtyātithijanaś cāpi gṛhe paryaśito mayā | mātsaryāt svādukāmena nṛśaṃsena bubhukṣatā ||
میں اتنا بے رحم تھا کہ گھر میں نوکر، مہمان اور زیرِکفالت لوگ موجود ہوتے، پھر بھی میں پیٹ بھر کر کھا لیتا۔ حسد سے بھرا، صرف ذائقے کی لذت کا طالب، اور سنگ دل بھوک کے زیرِاثر، میں اپنے گھر آنے والوں کو کھلائے بغیر ہی خود کھانا کھا لیتا تھا۔
