Educational Q&A

The verse links two pillars of dharma—generous hospitality (feeding large numbers of brāhmaṇas) and steady yogic discipline—teaching that sustained inner practice, supported by righteous giving, leads to release from the bondage of sin.

In the Anuśāsana Parva’s instruction-focused setting, Yudhiṣṭhira speaks about the fruits of dharmic acts. Here he highlights the merit of feeding brāhmaṇas and the importance of being continually engaged in yoga, presenting them as means toward moral purification and liberation from pāpa.
