Duḥṣanta–Śakuntalā: Gandharva Marriage and Succession Condition
श्रियस्तु भाग: संजज्ञे रत्यर्थ पृथिवीतले । भीष्मकस्य कुले साध्वी रुक्मिणी नाम नामत:
śriyastu bhāgaḥ saṃjajñe ratyarthaṃ pṛthivītale | bhīṣmakasya kule sādhvī rukmiṇī nāma nāmataḥ ||
وَیشَمپایَن نے کہا—زمین پر جگت کے آنند کے لیے شری (لکشمی) کا ایک اَংশ پیدا ہوا؛ وہ ودربھ راج بھیشمک کے کُل میں ستی-سادھوی رُکمِنی کے نام سے ظاہر ہوا۔
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse presents the idea that divine auspiciousness (Śrī/Lakṣmī) can manifest in the human world to promote welfare and joy, and it links virtue (sādhvī) and noble lineage with the presence of dharmic grace.
Vaiśaṃpāyana describes the birth/manifestation of Rukmiṇī in Bhīṣmaka’s family, identifying her as a portion of Śrī (Lakṣmī) who appears on earth for the sake of delight and well-being.
