Duḥṣantasya Vana-praveśaḥ
King Duḥṣanta’s Entry into the Forest Hunt
Vaiśampāyana uvāca— āścaryabhūtaṃ tad gatvā rājñe ’tha pratyavedayan: “kāye matsyā imau rājan sambhūtau mānuṣāv” iti.
The verse highlights how extraordinary events are brought under the scrutiny of lawful authority: the fishermen do not exploit the marvel privately but report it to the king, reflecting social order and accountability in the face of the uncanny.
After seeing a wondrous occurrence—two human boys found to have arisen from a fish’s body—the fishermen go to the king and formally inform him of what has happened.
