Adhyāya 25 — Liṅga-māhātmya (The Chapter on the Liṅga): Hari’s Śiva-Worship and the Fiery Pillar Theophany
अहं च भवतो वक्त्रात् कल्पादौ घोररूपधृक् / शूलपाणिर्भविष्यामि क्रोधजस्तव पुत्रकः
ahaṃ ca bhavato vaktrāt kalpādau ghorarūpadhṛk / śūlapāṇirbhaviṣyāmi krodhajastava putrakaḥ
اور میں بھی کلپ کے آغاز میں تیرے دہن سے، ہولناک روپ دھار کر، پیدا ہوں گا؛ شُول پَانی بن کر تیرے غضب سے جنما ہوا بیٹا کہلاؤں گا۔
A wrath-born divine emanation identifying itself with Rudra/Śiva (Śūlapāṇi), addressing a higher deity/creator figure
Primary Rasa: raudra
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
By portraying a fierce deity as an emanation arising at the kalpa’s start, the verse supports a Purāṇic non-dual tendency: the One Reality can manifest multiple divine forms (including Rudra) for cosmic functions without implying an ultimate separation in essence.
No specific technique is taught in this verse; instead, it supplies theological context used by the Kurma Purana’s Yoga teachings—especially Pāśupata-oriented discipline—where Rudra/Śiva is approached as a cosmic principle manifesting for creation, protection, and transformation.
It frames Rudra (Śūlapāṇi) as a divinely originated manifestation within the kalpa-cycle, aligning with the Kurma Purana’s synthesis in which Śiva and Viṣṇu are treated as compatible expressions of the same supreme governance of the cosmos.
