Kardama Muni’s Penance, Viṣṇu’s Darśana, and the Arrangement of Devahūti’s Marriage
gṛhītārhaṇam āsīnaṁ saṁyataṁ prīṇayan muniḥ smaran bhagavad-ādeśam ity āha ślakṣṇayā girā
This verse highlights a sage as self-controlled, pleased by proper honor without pride, mindful of the Lord’s instruction, and speaking with gentle, refined words.
After receiving due honor and sitting composed, Kardama remembered the Supreme Lord’s instruction and then spoke—showing that his response was guided by obedience to Bhagavān, not personal impulse.
Respond after becoming calm and self-restrained, remember higher principles (dharma and devotion), and speak in a way that is truthful yet soft and respectful—especially when giving guidance.
