Vṛtrāsura Instructs Indra on Providence and Devotion; The Slaying of Vṛtrāsura
vṛtrasya karmāti-mahādbhutaṁ tat surāsurāś cāraṇa-siddha-saṅghāḥ apūjayaṁs tat puruhūta-saṅkaṭaṁ nirīkṣya hā heti vicukruśur bhṛśam
This verse describes Vṛtrāsura’s deed as “exceedingly wonderful,” so striking that even demigods, demons, and celestial beings honored it while reacting with alarm at Indra’s peril.
They praised the astonishing nature of Vṛtrāsura’s action, yet they simultaneously feared the outcome because Indra (Puruhūta) was seen to be in severe danger during the battle.
People may recognize excellence or courage even in an opponent, yet still feel anxiety about consequences—this verse highlights how powerful actions evoke both admiration and concern, urging steadiness and discernment in crisis.
