FAQs

This verse imparts vamsha-vidya (genealogical knowledge): it preserves lineage succession by listing progeny relationships among named figures.

By cataloging dynastic descent (vamsa), the Agni Purana functions as a reference compendium—alongside rituals, polity, medicine, and poetics—preserving historical-memory through structured genealogical data.

Remembering and reciting lineage lists is traditionally linked with śraddhā toward ancestors and continuity of dharma; it supports ancestral remembrance and the Purāṇic aim of preserving sacred history.
