FAQs

It conveys tīrtha-māhātmya: a hierarchy of pilgrimage efficacy, stating that this particular sacred presence/place is regarded as surpassing other tīrthas and is therefore a high-yield destination for ritual bathing, vows, and purification acts.

By cataloging and ranking sacred sites (tīrthas) and their fame/efficacy, the text functions as a reference guide to religious geography and pilgrimage practice—one of the many practical knowledge domains (alongside ritual, polity, medicine, etc.) compiled in the Agni Purana.

The verse emphasizes that association with this renowned tīrtha (or sacred manifestation) is believed to yield exceptional puṇya (religious merit) and purification, since it is portrayed as eclipsing the benefits of ordinary pilgrimage sites.
