FAQs

Ayurvedic viṣa-cikitsā (toxicology): it prescribes specific anti-poison drugs—śirīṣa-pañcāṅga and vyoṣa—along with named antidotal substances for centipede poison and for poison attributed to mouse/rat origin.

Alongside theology and ritual, the Agni Purana preserves applied sciences; here it records practical medical toxicology (bite/venom management and antidotal materia medica), demonstrating its wide-ranging, handbook-like scope.

By preserving and applying life-protecting knowledge (ārogya-rakṣā), the text frames care and prevention of harm as dharmic action—supporting wellbeing, reducing suffering, and enabling continued religious and social duties.
