FAQs

Ayurvedic formulation knowledge: a specific medicinal combination—blue-lotus pollen mixed with cow-dung extract—described with pharmacological actions (eye-benefiting, digestive-stimulating, kapha-alleviating, and obstruction/stone-breaking).

It illustrates the text’s medical compendium aspect by listing materia medica (nīlotpala) and a concrete preparation with defined therapeutic properties, alongside the Purana’s broader coverage of ritual, polity, arts, and sciences.

While primarily medical, preserving health—especially vision and digestion—is treated as supportive of dharma: bodily well-being enables sustained performance of vows, worship, and righteous duties, thereby indirectly aiding merit (puṇya) through disciplined living.
