māṃ pātu devo'khiladevatātmā saṃsārakūpe patitaṃ gabhīre | tannāma divyaṃ varamaṃtramūlaṃ dhunotu me sarvamaghaṃ hṛdistham
Scene: A devotee at the edge of a dark, deep well labeled ‘saṃsāra’; from above descends a stream of luminous syllables (Śiva-nāma) that becomes a rope of light pulling the devotee upward; the heart glows as impurities scatter.
Śiva’s Name is a mantra-root that purifies the heart and lifts one from the depths of saṃsāra.
No tīrtha is specified; the verse glorifies the saving power of the Lord’s divine Name.
Implicit nāma-japa (recollection/recitation of the divine Name) as a purifier and protector.
