Frequently Asked Questions

Because the chapter’s first task is to make Agni fully “awake” and radiant as the yajña’s mouth; strengthened fire is the condition for safe, effective offerings and protection of the sacrificer.

“Yoni” denotes Agni’s proper source/seat—the prepared altar or fire-place. Installing him there signifies ritual correctness and stable order (ṛta), from which his light and protective power can operate.

They extend the yajña’s auspicious order into the sacrificer’s dwelling: the home is addressed as a protective power, calmed of inauspiciousness, and aligned to support consecration and the coming Soma work.
