Rudrākṣa Māhātmya — The Greatness of Rudraksha
Brahma (narrating his tapas and inner discipline to a listener within the Viśveśvarasaṃhitā context)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Role: teaching
Cosmic Event: divyavarṣa-sahasra tapas (mythic long-duration austerity)
It emphasizes that even exalted beings face mental agitation during long tapas, and liberation-oriented practice requires repeated restraint of the mind and surrender toward Mahesha—showing that grace and discipline work together in Shaiva Siddhanta.
The verse frames Shiva (Mahesha) as the supreme refuge and goal of austerity; steadying the mind is the inner counterpart to outer Linga worship—making the devotee fit to receive Shiva’s presence and guidance.
Sustained tapas with mind-restraint: daily japa (especially Panchakshara, Om Namaḥ Śivāya), dhyāna on Shiva, and disciplined self-control—practices commonly reinforced with Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and Rudrāksha in Shaiva observance.
