Types of Bhasma and the Method of Wearing Tripuṇḍra
श्राद्धे यज्ञे जपे होमे वैश्वदेवे सुरार्चने । धृतत्रिपुंड्रः पूतात्मा मृत्युं जयति मानवः
śrāddhe yajñe jape home vaiśvadeve surārcane | dhṛtatripuṃḍraḥ pūtātmā mṛtyuṃ jayati mānavaḥ
Sa Śrāddha para sa mga ninuno, sa mga handog na yajña, sa japa o pag-uulit ng mantra, sa homa o handog sa apoy, sa ritong Vaiśvadeva, at sa pagsamba sa mga diyos—ang taong may Tripuṇḍra, na dalisay ang kaluluwa, ay nagwawagi laban sa kamatayan.

The verse teaches that Tripuṇḍra-dhāraṇa (wearing Shiva’s sacred ash marks) sanctifies all Vedic and devotional actions—śrāddha, yajña, japa, and homa—so the practitioner becomes inwardly purified and gains Shiva’s grace that leads beyond fear of death toward liberation.
Tripuṇḍra is a Shaiva sign of belonging to and remembering Saguna Shiva—especially the Linga—through constant bodily and mental recollection; it marks the devotee as aligned with Shiva-tattva while performing daily rites and temple worship.
Wear Tripuṇḍra made of bhasma while doing japa, homa, and daily offerings (Vaiśvadeva), maintaining inner purity and Shiva-smaraṇa; this integrates external ritual with meditative remembrance of Lord Shiva.
