The Greatness of Bhasma, Rudrākṣa, and the Name of Śiva

Sthala Purana: Kāśī is portrayed as the field where Śiva’s grace burns pāpa; the verse’s hyperbole mirrors Kāśī’s reputation for rapid purification through remembrance of Śiva.
Significance: Assurance of pāpa-kṣaya through nāma-smaraṇa; strengthens resolve toward śaraṇāgati and ethical restraint.

It proclaims the extraordinary purifying power of Śiva-nāma: remembrance and repetition of Shiva’s Name burns accumulated pāpa, supporting the Shaiva path of grace (anugraha) leading toward liberation.
In Vidyeśvara/Viśveśvara teachings, Saguna worship (Linga-pūjā) is strengthened by nāma-japa; chanting Śiva’s Name is a direct devotional approach to the Lord present in the Linga as the accessible form of Pati (Śiva).
Regular Śiva-nāma-japa—especially the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—as a daily discipline, optionally alongside Linga worship with bhasma (tripuṇḍra) and rudrākṣa for focused devotion.
