Bondage and Liberation: The Prakṛti–Karma Wheel and Śiva as the Transcendent Cause
श्वादिभिर्दूषितानां च भस्मना शुद्धिरिष्यते । सजलं निर्जलं भस्म यथायोग्यं तु योजयेत्
śvādibhirdūṣitānāṃ ca bhasmanā śuddhiriṣyate | sajalaṃ nirjalaṃ bhasma yathāyogyaṃ tu yojayet
Para sa mga bagay na nadungisan ng aso at katulad nito, ang paglilinis ay itinakda ring gawin sa pamamagitan ng bhasma, ang banal na abo. Ipagamit ang bhasma na may halong tubig o tuyo, ayon sa nararapat sa ritwal.

Sthala Purana: Not a specific jyotirliṅga episode; the verse addresses strong impurity (defilement by dogs etc.) and prescribes bhasma as a Śaiva purifier, reflecting Bhairava-like boundary-guarding of purity.
It presents bhasma as a Shaiva purifier: outward cleansing supports inner discipline, reminding the devotee of impermanence and directing the mind toward Shiva (Pati) as the liberator from bondage.
In Linga-worship, purity of articles and the worshipper is part of proper upachara; bhasma—dear to Shiva and worn as Tripundra—functions as an authorized means of restoring ritual fitness so worship may proceed without obstruction.
Use vibhuti/bhasma for purification and apply it appropriately—either dry or moistened—consistent with Shaiva practice (Tripundra), ideally alongside remembrance of Shiva and recitation of the Panchakshara mantra (Om Namaḥ Śivāya).
