Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Sthala Purana: General ritual instruction: separate offerings of milk etc., plus honey and sugarcane essence, and a milk-and-grain naivedya, all accompanied by praṇava.
Significance: Highlights ‘śuddha-dravya’ and mantra-centered offering: purity of substances and purity of sound converge as a simple, accessible path to grace.
Mantra: ॐ (praṇava)
Type: gayatri
Shakti Form: Annapūrṇā
Role: nurturing
Offering: naivedya
It teaches that Shiva is worshipped through purity and devotion expressed in simple offerings, and that the Pranava (Oṁ) sanctifies the act—pointing to Shiva as the supreme Pati approached through reverent, sattvic upacharas.
The verse is practical guidance for Linga-puja: offering milk-based and sweet substances as naivedya/upachara to Saguna Shiva (Shiva worshipped with form), while invoking the transcendent through Oṁ.
Perform naivedya with cow’s milk and grains, add honey and sugar/jaggery, and accompany the offering with japa/utterance of the Pranava ‘Oṁ’ as the primary mantra during the act of worship.
