A devotee/supplicant addressing Lord Shiva (as presented in the Umāsaṃhitā discourse, narrated through Suta Goswami)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Tripurāntaka
Type: stotra
Shakti Form: Gaurī
Role: nurturing
It affirms Shiva as both the source of creation and the indwelling reality of all states of existence, leading the devotee toward Shaiva Siddhanta insight: liberation comes by turning the heart inward and binding awareness to Pati (Shiva).
By naming Shiva as Gaurisha and Tripurantaka, it supports Saguna worship (with attributes and forms) while also declaring His all-pervasiveness—an approach consistent with Linga worship as the symbol of the Supreme present in all.
The key practice is dhyana: establishing Shiva in the heart (hṛd-dhāraṇā). Practically, this pairs well with japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and inward contemplation of Shiva as present through all stages—childhood, youth, and old age.
