The Account of Śiva’s Manifestation as Vaiśyanātha

Nandishvara (Nandi)
Tattva Level: pashu
Role: teaching
It highlights dharmic integrity: invoking the Sun and Moon as cosmic witnesses signifies truthfulness and moral accountability, while the heart-touch expresses sincere, sattvic devotion and concord.
Though the Liṅga is not named here, the verse reflects a key Shaiva ethic: actions and vows are to be sanctified before higher witnessing principles—ultimately under the all-seeing presence of Saguna Shiva, the Lord who upholds dharma.
A practical takeaway is to begin vows, japa (e.g., “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”), or vrata intentions with a clear inner resolve and ‘sākṣī-bhāva’ (witness-awareness), mentally offering one’s truthfulness to Shiva before proceeding.
