It depicts the apparent overwhelming of Śiva by demonic force, highlighting a Shaiva Siddhanta insight: external power and weaponry cannot truly bind Pati (Śiva), who remains the sovereign Lord even when He allows the play of battle to unfold.
Śaṅkara here is Saguna Śiva—personally present and active in the cosmic drama. Devotees worship the Liṅga as the steady, unshaken reality of Śiva, remembering that even when forces seem to ‘cover’ truth, the Lord’s presence is never eclipsed.
A practical takeaway is to steady the mind with the Pañcākṣarī mantra (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) when overwhelmed by ‘many weapons’ of distraction, and to reinforce devotion with Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and Rudrākṣa as reminders of Śiva’s protection and inner mastery.
