त्रिपुरवर्णनम् (Tripura-varṇanam) — “Description of Tripura”
दैत्या ऊचुः । यदि प्रसन्नो देवेश यदि देयो वरस्त्वया । अवध्यत्वं च सर्वेषां सर्वभूतेषु देहिनः
daityā ūcuḥ | yadi prasanno deveśa yadi deyo varastvayā | avadhyatvaṃ ca sarveṣāṃ sarvabhūteṣu dehinaḥ
Wika ng mga Daitya: “Kung Ikaw ay nalulugod, O Panginoon ng mga deva, at kung magbibigay Ka ng biyaya, ipagkaloob Mo sa amin ang pagiging di-mapapatay—upang sa lahat ng may katawan, sa lahat ng uri ng nilalang, walang sinuman ang makapapatay sa amin.”

The Daityas approach the personal Lord (Saguna Shiva) as Deveśa, the giver of boons. Linga-worship likewise approaches Shiva as accessible grace (anugraha), but the Purana repeatedly contrasts selfish boon-seeking with devotion aimed at purification and dharma.
