Satī at her father’s house: blessings and the onset of youth
tvajjanmādivikārā no vidyaṃte kepi duḥkhadā | tathāpi māyayā tvaṃ hi gṛhṇāsi kṛpayā ca tān
Sati (addressing Lord Shiva)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Type: stotra
Shakti Form: Satī
Role: liberating
It affirms Shiva as nirvikāra (unchanging) and beyond birth, while also declaring His anugraha (grace): He voluntarily manifests through His Māyā to uplift bound souls, without being tainted by suffering.
The verse supports saguna-upāsanā as a compassionate accessibility: though Shiva is beyond form and change, He accepts manifest forms (including the Linga) so devotees can approach Him and receive grace.
Meditate on Shiva as both nirguṇa (beyond change) and saguna (graciously manifest), repeating the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” with the intent of surrender, recognizing His compassion as the cause of liberation.
