It teaches that the Goddess is Śakti—present as both the fierce, transformative fire (Agni and the sun’s heat) and the soothing, grace-filled coolness (moonlight). In Shaiva Siddhanta, this points to Śiva’s inseparable power that governs creation, preservation, and inner purification.
Linga worship honors Śiva as Pati (the Lord) together with Śakti, his manifest power. This hymn complements Saguna worship by recognizing that the energies experienced in the cosmos—heat, light, and cooling radiance—are expressions of Śiva-Śakti, approached through praise (stuti) and reverent bowing (namas).
A simple practice is stuti-japa: recite the verse as a daily hymn before a Śiva-liṅga or during Mahāśivarātri, contemplating heat (tapas) and coolness (śānti) as two faces of divine Śakti, and concluding with namas (prostration) as an act of bhakti.
