Menā’s Lament and Reproach
to the Sage
Suta Goswami (narrating the Parvati Khanda episode)
It highlights the Shaiva principle that divine events unfold with the sanction and guidance of realized sages—guardians of dharma—who step forward to direct the next stage of the sacred narrative.
In the Shiva Purana, sages like Vasiṣṭha often function as transmitters of proper Shiva-upāsanā; their approach signals that the coming instruction or response will align with established Shaiva ritual and devotion toward Saguna Shiva (including Linga worship).
The verse implies seeking instruction from qualified teachers for Shiva worship—typically including Panchākṣarī japa (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and disciplined observance—though no specific item like bhasma or rudrākṣa is explicitly stated in this line.
