Himālaya’s Resolution to Give Pārvatī to Śiva
Sūta Gosvāmin (narrating to the sages, addressing Shiva as Maheśāna within the quoted account)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: teaching
The verse highlights that right understanding arises through sāttvic counsel grounded in itihāsa (sacred narrative). In Shaiva Siddhānta terms, such instruction helps the bound soul (paśu) loosen the bonds (pāśa) by turning the mind toward Pati—Shiva—through clarity, faith, and discernment.
By stressing ‘awakening’ through sacred teaching, the verse supports Saguna Shiva worship as a practical means: hearing Shiva’s līlā and dharma (itihāsa) matures devotion, making external worship—such as Liṅga-pūjā—an inwardly informed act rather than mere ritual.
Śravaṇa and manana: regularly listening to Shiva Purana narratives and reflecting on them, supported by simple daily devotion such as japa of the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) to stabilize the awakened understanding.
