(Pūrvagati-varṇana) — “Description of the Prior Course / Earlier Lineage Account”

The verse highlights that cosmic and social harmony is sustained through Dharma: rightful relationships and sacred duties (including honoring the Pitṛs) become “forms of Dharma,” which, in Shaiva understanding, ultimately support the devotee’s steadiness in Shiva-bhakti and the path toward liberation.
Though not directly naming the Liṅga, it places Dharma and Pitṛ-duties within the larger Shaiva worldview where Saguna Shiva is worshipped as the Lord who upholds order. Proper observance of dharmic duties purifies the mind, making Liṅga-worship and mantra-japa more fruitful.
A practical takeaway is Pitṛ-tarpaṇa (water/oblations offered with reverence) performed with purity and remembrance of Shiva, alongside steady japa of the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” as a daily discipline to ground one’s life in Dharma.
