The Determination of Śiva as the Meaning of Praṇava
Suta Goswami (narrating Shiva Purana teachings to the sages at Naimisharanya, within the Kailasha Samhita discourse)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Type: stotra
Role: teaching
It establishes Guru-tattva as Śiva-tattva: the liberating grace (anugraha) of Pati reaches the bound soul (paśu) through the Guru, so surrender and clarity of understanding become direct means toward moksha.
In Shaiva practice, the Guru reveals the correct mode of approaching Saguna Śiva (including Linga worship) and leads the seeker from outer ritual to inner realization—seeing the same Śiva as the living Guru and as the worshipped Lord.
It implies disciplined self-inquiry (svavicāra) and humble submission to the Guru’s guidance—often supported in Shaiva tradition by japa of the Panchākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and regular Shiva-upāsanā as instructed by the Guru.
