रम्भा
प्रलोभनम् — Rambhā’s Temptation and Viśvāmitra’s Curse
ब्राह्मण स्सुमहातेजा स्तपोबलसमन्वित:।उद्धरिष्यति रम्भे त्वां मत्क्रोधकलुषीकृताम्।।1.64.13।।
brāhmaṇaḥ sumahātejāḥ tapobalasamanvitaḥ | uddhariṣyati rambhe tvāṃ matkrodhakaluṣīkṛtām || 1.64.13 ||
O Rambhā, isang nagniningning na brāhmaṇa, na may lakas na bunga ng mahigpit na tapas, ang balang araw ay magliligtas sa iyo—bagaman nadungisan ka ng aking poot.
'O Rambha! an effulgent brahmin, endowed with the power of asceticism, will liberate you from this state into which you have fallen on account of my anger'.
Dharma includes accountability and mitigation: even after a harsh act, the speaker acknowledges fault (“tainted by my anger”) and provides a path toward restoration.
After cursing Rambhā, Viśvāmitra adds a consoling condition that a future ascetic brāhmaṇa will release her from the curse.
Moral responsibility and compassion—recognizing the excess of anger and ensuring eventual relief.
