Śūkarī

Concept: Sincere inquiry met with truthful narration becomes a sacred act; kathā itself is a purifier when told and heard with faith.

Application: When asked in good faith, respond transparently and completely; treat storytelling as responsibility, not performance.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

FAQs

The speaker is Śūkarī, and the verse functions as a narrative transition: she responds to a question and agrees to recount the story and earlier deeds of a great-souled person.

It signals a complete account: not only the person’s life-story or conduct (carita) but also the antecedent actions that shaped it (pūrvaceṣṭita), a common Purāṇic method for teaching karma and dharma through biography.

The verse implies that understanding a person’s present condition requires knowing their prior actions, reinforcing the Purāṇic moral logic of karma, accountability, and dharmic causality.
