Himavān (Himalaya)

FAQs

It establishes a hierarchy of natural sacred features, naming Himavān as foremost among mountains and extending the discussion to waterscapes like rivers, ponds, and wells—often a lead-in to tīrtha or sacred-place praise.

Not explicitly in this line alone; it functions as a comparative preface. The surrounding verses typically specify which river/pond/well (or region) is being singled out as supreme.

It encourages reverence for creation and for places associated with purity and sanctity; in Purāṇic contexts, such ranking often supports practices of pilgrimage, gratitude, and disciplined engagement with sacred landscapes.
