The Greatness of Kārtika
Narada (in instruction-dialogue context with Sanatkumara tradition)
Vrata: Trirātra; Ṣaḍrātra (and similar multi-night upavāsas)
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
It links the intensity/length of an upavāsa (fasting observance) with a proportionate dāna (gift), teaching that disciplined restraint should be sealed by generosity and honor toward dharma.
Though framed as ritual guidance, the verse supports bhakti by prescribing offerings that express reverence and self-giving; the devotee’s fasting is completed by charitable dedication rather than mere personal austerity.
Kalpa (ritual procedure) is implied: it specifies context-based dāna tied to particular vrata durations (trirātra, ṣaḍrātra, etc.), illustrating rule-based ritual application rather than grammar or astrology.
