A śāpa is not merely punitive; it ‘fixes’ a situation into a lasting condition. The verse emphasizes how wrongdoing can trap multiple parties in extended suffering.
Carita—an episode elaborating causal continuity behind the king’s present domestic problem.
Detention by ‘serpent’ forces suggests bondage by desire and fear; the virtuous self (satī) can be held captive by lower impulses until insight or grace releases it.
