Adhyaya 49 — Primordial Human Creation, the Rise of Desire, and the Origins of Settlements, Measures, and Agriculture
इच्छताञ्च तथायासो मनसः समजायत ।
अपां सौक्ष्म्यं ततस्तासां सिद्धिर्नानारसोल्लसा ॥
icchatāñca tathāyāso manasaḥ samajāyata /
apāṃ saukṣmyaṃ tatastāsāṃ siddhirnānārasollasā
At para sa mga nagnanais, gayon din, sumibol ang isang pagsisikap ng isipan. Pagkaraan, lumitaw para sa kanila ang kasinupan ng tubig, at isang kasakdalang nagniningning sa maraming lasa (rasa).
Even in an abundant age, desire generates mental agitation (āyāsa). The text subtly warns that craving itself is the seed of effort and disturbance.

‘Subtlety of waters’ can indicate mastery over the fluid principle (āpas-tattva): adaptability, taste/essence (rasa), and the mind’s capacity to ‘liquefy’ reality into experience.
