Adhyaya 23Ashvatara’s Vow for Madalasa and the Bestowal of Musical Science by Sarasvati

स भार्यां तां मृतां श्रुत्वा हृदयेष्टां मदालसाम् ।

पितरौ च पुरो दृष्ट्वा लज्जाशोकाब्धिमध्यगः ॥

sa bhāryāṃ tāṃ mṛtāṃ śrutvā hṛdayeṣṭāṃ madālasām | pitarau ca puro dṛṣṭvā lajjā-śokābdhi-madhyagaḥ ||

Nang marinig niyang pumanaw na ang minamahal niyang asawa na si Madālasā, at makita ang kanyang mga magulang sa harap niya, siya’y lumubog sa dagat ng hiya at dalamhati.
